Reading Time: Approximately 4 Minutes
After spending 34 years in the financial business I have handed over my financial practice to two other advisors so that I can immerse myself and concentrate completely on the expanding life planning philosophy.
With about 1,000 baby boomers turning 60 each day in Canada, baby boomers are showing more interest in life planning. Exposure in the media has increased by 230% in the last year alone and my telephone is ringing more frequently!
When asked what I do my reply is: "I support those people who are within thinking distance of retirement to create magic, meaning and purpose in the second half of their lives."
Much of my time has been taken by my upcoming epic adventure with ten other cool dudes to Tanzania. I leave this week for the best part of a month. It will be an experience for me personally and professionally as we get “Back to the Rhythm” while trekking the Serengeti and visiting the elders of an almost extinct tribe.
I am giving you access to our private blog: http://smabygroup.typepad.com/blog/2006/02/wise_words.html - when prompted to do so, the username is "inventure" and the password is "jambo06" – all in lower case. You will find the bio’s of my fellow inventurers and much other material about our expedition.
I will be hosting several telephone conferences discussing my experiences and learning when I return – watch for more information or visit www.lifeplanningmatters.com/events.html for more details. Register NOW by email.
AAbsolutely… and my programs can help people to live and work on purpose. Our programs have been designed at the right time and place for the large number of baby boomers who are entering their fifties and sixties – the second half of their lives.

While both health and financial security are critical to vital ageing, they are only two legs of a three legged stool – the third is purpose. Without it – our reason to get up in the morning is greatly diminished.
I have been collecting stories of people who are Living Large. Living Large is defined as Living with purpose, courage, confidence and an abiding commitment to live the fullest life possible.
Here are some notes from Betty Forchuk’s Living Large journal:
"Chronologically I am 60 years old although I feel like I’m in my early 40’s.
I was a grief counselor for 15 years, have since retired. I now do a lot of public speaking about the process of dying and grieving.
I feel my unique purpose in life is to be a nurturer of young people, by setting an example of good clean living and by treating other people the same way I want to be treated. I love to encourage and cheer people on, no matter what trial or tribulation they are going through at the time. I have many young friends, and I do mean young in their early 20’s and early 30’s. They do not look on me as an older person. I find that quite a compliment.
Living large to me means exploring all your talents and not being afraid to attempt them. It means taking chances and not only rejoicing in your accomplishments, but taking your mistakes and using them as a great life experience. It means not having any regrets and enjoying everything life has to offer, the good and the bad.
I have lived large most of my life whether I knew it or not, now that I am older I see all the things I accomplished and realize now that I have been blessed throughout my life. This gives me the confidence to try new things and share them with the people I love. It doesn’t get much larger than that. Every day is a new adventure and every day becomes more precious the older we get.”
